Observing the Industry 4.0 Wave and Cultivating Innovative and Practical Talents——Student Visiting Activities in Singapore

From August 19 to 24, 2019, 30 students from Chongqing University’s Belt and Road Overseas Practice Group went to Singapore to participate in the one-week "Future Leaders Visiting Camp". The theme of this exchange activity is "Energy and Environment Development" and "Science and Technology, Innovation and Intellectual Property Development under the Fourth Industrialization Wave". It aims to cultivate the awareness of innovation, intellectual property and environmental protection by letting students understand knowledge related to their professions such as intellectual property, the fourth industrial revolution, energy environment and big data. Through the inspection of Singapore’s national conditions and visits to internationally renowned universities to improve the comprehensive quality of contemporary Chinese young people, we will guide young students to grow into talents through the vivid practice of the “Belt and Road” strategy.

On August 19th, the students arrived at Singapore Changi Airport and checked in at the Days Hotel by bus. In the morning, the students gathered in the hotel and arrived at IP Academy, officially starting their visit to Singapore.

Professor Zhang Qin is giving lectures to students

From August 19th to 20th, the students listened to Professor Daniel Collppy from the School of Intellectual Property to give a detailed explanation on the development and research of intellectual property, innovation protection, technology property rights and technology commercialization. The course showed everyone the importance of intellectual property protection in modern society and improved students’ awareness and ability to protect intellectual property. Professor Zhang Qin from Ocean University of China introduced the four industrial revolutions and the status quo and development of environmental energy in terms of conceptual interpretation, industrial revolution, energy development and environmental impact, and the history of government regulation and control, and trough examples from several countries, how to solve energy and environmental problems through government regulation. Dr John Yan from INKNOE introduced the basic qualities of becoming an entrepreneur and the steps to successfully establish a startup company. In addition, the practice team also came to FusionWorld, visited the company's latest technology in life, machinery, medical care, education, etc., and experienced the rapid development of technology in Singapore under the fourth industrial revolution.

Students experience first-hand the latest scientific and technological achievements in FusionWorld

On August 21st, the students came to the National University of Singapore (NUS). Professor Kang Hway Chuan from NUS told the students about the development of information technology under the wave of the fourth industrial revolution. The professor took AlphaGo as an example to describe the current situation of artificial intelligence and the opportunities and challenges it brings. There is also the blockchain technology that may change the social structure and its operation process. Mr. Stephen Ho brought students a course that leads the revolution in the data age. Mr. Stephen Ho interacted with students in the classroom to ask questions and introduced the current status of the data era and the application of big data technology in actual production and life. Then through discussion and questioning, students are guided to learn to think, learn to innovate, and learn to be a qualified leader.

On August 22nd, the students came to IP Academy again. Teacher Crystal, who graduated from Sichuan University and now working in Singapore, shared her study and work experience and warned students to be brave to challenge and follow their hearts when they are young. Later, Mr. Lawrence from the National University of Singapore combined his own work experience to describe the hidden mystery behind the value of various companies and how to judge the investment value of a company, and used familiar companies such as Alibaba, Nokia, and Nvidia as cases to make everyone It is easy to understand some basic knowledge in financial investment, which increases the knowledge of students.

Teacher Crystal shares her own experience

On August 23, after four days of preparation, the students were divided into 5 groups to discuss the technological development, innovation and intellectual property commercialization, technological development and government regulation of environmental energy under the fourth industrial revolution. Three questions are presented for 15 minutes. Two judges—Professor Daniel and Professor Zhang respectively commented and asked questions about each group member. In the end, after the teacher's discussion and scoring, the first group was rated as the best group. Teacher Kok from IP Academy awarded each student a certificate of completion and took a group photo. In the afternoon, the students came to Marina barrage by the sea. Under the leadership of the instructor, the students visited Singapore’s largest dam, and gained a deeper understanding of Singapore’s environmentally friendly policies and measures such as water recycling, waste recycling and classification, and green travel.

On August 24, after finishing the visiting-student exchange course, the students came to Singapore Merlion Park and felt the unique atmosphere of Singapore. Tourists from all over the world gather in Merlion Park to experience the unique charm of Singapore. The holy Merlion and the sailing buildings in the distance complement each other. The collision of tradition and modernity is a representative of Singapore's tolerance. Singapore has a small land area, does not produce food or water, but it is one of the world's major economic and trade centers. Singapore's development is thought-provoking. One city, one country, one tolerant and one hope.
